Accountability is one of the most important factors in determining the success of an individual, a team and an entire organization. It’s also one of the most universally misunderstood and misapplied concepts in business, making it one of the biggest challenges leaders face.
A 10-year study by Greg Bustin of more than 12,000 CEOs and key executives worldwide confirms that "lack of accountability" is the single greatest barrier to achieving consistently high levels of organizational performance.
To help business leaders gain fresh insight into building, nurturing and sustaining a culture where accountability drives high performance, Greg interviewed senior leaders at some of the world's most respected companies in manufacturing (Nucor and Herman Miller), technology (Sony), distribution (Southwest Airlines), retail (The Container Store) and professional services (Marriott and Ernst & Young). He also interviewed dozens of CEOs of small- and mid-sized companies in the United States, Canada and the UK. What he discovered might surprise you.
Greg believes that accountability is more about coaching than scolding. It’s about becoming an advocate for a person’s success rather than beating them when they fail. Greg learned that top-performing companies succeed in good times and bad because they approach accountability as a support system versus punishment. And he believes that accountability is something you do for people not to them. Greg’s insights form the basis of this workshop and his groundbreaking book on accountability. Dan Pink, bestselling author of Drive, says of Greg’s book, “If you're looking for new ways to drive accountability and improve individual and organizational performance, read this book.”
